Located in the gentle countryside of Ningbo, Stillness in Clay is a boutique guesthouse that redefines the rural retreat through an architecture of silence and proportion. Each space distills the essence of contemporary Eastern minimalism — where light moves slowly across muted walls, and materials breathe with quiet authenticity.
The design adopts a restrained palette of clay-toned plaster, oiled wood, and raw textures, forming a serene dialogue between architecture and the surrounding woodland. Large openings frame the soft greenery beyond, while the interior dissolves into contemplative spatial sequences defined by tactility and balance.
Furniture pieces are bespoke and sparse — hand-crafted timber, woven fibers, and ceramic details evoke a lived-in simplicity. In the guest rooms, the boundary between inside and outside blurs: a freestanding tub by the window invites immersion into landscape and time alike.
Stillness in Clay is a meditation on slow living — a space where architecture withdraws into quietness, and life resumes its natural pace.
